The Park of Monsters

The Park of Monsters is a poster designed for Sacro Bosco, or commonly known in English as The Park of Monsters. The direct translation of “Scaro Bosco” is “sacred grove,” as it is a nature park filled with stone sculptures of various mythical creatures and monsters.

There are many directions I could have gone with this poster, however I chose to go for a fairytale-inspired design to allow the target audience to be geared more towards children or teenagers. Using curvilinear shapes, especially for the teeth of the monsters, and having their heads peek out from behind the leaves, keeps this playful feeling throughout the poster.

I kept the idea of the original sculptures at the park in mind while designing these monsters for the poster. I wanted them to represent what you would see at the park, but stylize them to be alive and curious little monsters. Making their heads peek out behind the leaves creates this curious feeling, wanting to know what lies further within, therefore wanting to visit the park.

Whimsical Fantasy Novel Font

Whimsical Fantasy Novel is the font that I created specifically for this poster design. It is a serif typeface that consists of a swirl motif, present in every letter form. This motif is to create a fantasy-like aspect to the font, especially in the context of The Park of Monsters.

The fantastical, fairytale element of the font allows the main theme of the poster to also lean into the fairytale ambiance, also making it feel less scary.
