First Impressions Printmaking Conference

First Impressions Printmaking Conference is a made-up conference inviting teenagers and young adults to explore printmaking as an art medium. First Impressions was a group project, each of us having certain roles. My role was the programmer, creating the booklet for the conference, social media posts, as well as a name badge for the conference.

Using a color palette of colors very similar to cyan, magenta, yellow, and black allows for a connection to colors that a printer uses when printing. Also, having a paint splatter motif adds an element of fun, but also shows the messiness of the medium. The octopus tentacles also add an extra element to the work, but also represent how octopus and squid can produce ink when scared. Since the background and the designated motifs are hand-drawn, I used photos to allow you to fully comprehend what you will be doing/seeing during that specific day of the conference.

How is First Impressions Organized?

First Impressions Printmaking Conference is organized over several days, with each day focusing on a different form of printmaking. For example, Friday focuses on screen printing and brings in artists and/or companies who primarily utilize screen printing as their main medium. There are talks, Q&A sessions, and all-day workshops that allow you to have hands-on experience with the medium. The workshops would be held in a different hall from the talks and Q&As so that they wouldn’t be disturbed by all the noise.

In the booklet, you will have the day laid out on a spread of pages, then the next spread will be information about that specific form of printing, as well as examples from the specific artists who will be talking. This booklet is meant to be informational, about the conference, giving context to the types of printing that will be discussed, as well as the individual events that are going on throughout the day.
